सिंघाड़ा फलवर्ग और श्रृंगाटकादि कुल ( Onagraceae) का एक सर्वसुलभ फल है, जो कि प्रायः तालाब, पोखरो आदि मे उगाया जाता है। इसकी बेले पानी सतह पर तैरती रहती है तथा इसकी जड़े पानी के अन्दर झूलती रहती है। परिपक्व होने पर बेलों पर कांटायुक्त त्रिकोणाकार फल निकलता हैं,जो सिंघाड़ा कहलाता हैं। कच्चा होने पर सिंघाड़ा हरे रंग का होता है परंतु जैसे-जैसे पकता जाता है इसके रंग में कालिमि आ जाती है।इसका छिलका छीलने पर भीतर सफेद रंग की ठोस गिरी निकलती है जो खाने में अत्यंत स्वादिष्ट होती है।इसे लोग प्राय कच्चा ही खाते हैं,परंतु कुछ लोग उबाल कर भी खाते हैं। सिंघाड़े की गिरी को सुखाकर उसका पाउडर बनाया जाता है, जिससे नाना प्रकार के व्यंजन बनते हैं।

विभिन्न नाम -संस्कृत– श्रृंगाटक(चूंकी इसमें सीग के समान दो कांटे रहते हैं, इसलिए इसे श्रृंगाटक कहते हैं), जलफल, त्रिकोणफल, जलकण्टक। हिन्दी, तमिल और उर्दू– सिघाड़ा। गुजराती– सिंगोड़ा। कशमीर– गौनरी। आँग्ल भाषा– Singharanut.

गुण धर्म एवं उपयोग-आयुर्वेद के मतानुसार सिंघाडा शीतल, स्वादिष्ट, वीर्यवर्धक, कामोदीपक, गुरू और रक्तपित्तनाशक है। यह रक्त विकार एंव दाह को नष्ट करने वाला होता है। आधुनिक मतानुसार इसके फल मे स्टार्च और मैगनीज होता है। सिघाड़ा स्त्रियो को अधिक रक्तस्राव मे लाभ देता है। इसके सेवन से रक्तस्राव मे कमी आती है साथ ही कमजोरी भी दूर होती है। सिंघाड़ा गर्भवती महिलाओ को भी लाभ करता है। गर्भाशय की निर्बलता, हाथ पैरो मे जलन होने, शरीर पर फुुंसिया हो जाने अथवा मुखपाक से ग्रसित होने पर भोजन के दो घंटे पश्चात् कच्चा सिघाड़ा अवश्य खाना चाहिए।कच्चा सिघाड़ा रक्त पित्तनाशक है। गुदा से रक्तस्राव होने पर कुछ दिनो तक कच्चा सिघाड़ा लगातार खाना चाहिए। इससे लाभ होता है।
