योगा भारत की अति प्राचीन एवं सर्वोत्तम व्यायाम प्रणाली है। यह इतनी शक्तिशाली और व्यवहारिक है कि शरीर के समस्त रोगों को ठीक करने में समर्थ है। यह प्राकृतिक चिकित्सा का एक अंग है। इससे शरीर दीर्घायु होता है। भिन्न-भिन्न रोगो में अलग-अलग प्रकार के योगा होते है जैसे यकृत, वृक्क आदि के लिये भुजंगासन, शलभासन एवं मांसपेशियों के लिए धनुरासन आदि होते है।यीगा के विषय में एक महत्वपूर्ण तत्थ है जिसे मै आपको बता रहा हूँ। आधुनिक युग के लोग उसे नही जानते है और न ही पुराने लोग उसकी जानकारी देते है, वह है श्वांस का लेना और श्वांस का छोड़ना। योगा वास्तव मे श्वांस विज्ञान का खेल है। श्वास हमेशा पेट से ली जाती है और पेट से छोड़ी जाती है। जैसे गोद का बच्चा जब सोता है तो आप देखते होगे कि उसका पेट उठता बैठता रहता है। जब उसका पेट ऊपर को उठता है तब वह सांस लेता है और जब पेट बैठता है या पिचकता है तब वह सांस छोड़ता है। इसीप्रकार आपको भी योगासन करते समय पेट से सांस लेना और छोडना है।


अब प्रश्न है यह है की श्वास कब ली जाए और कब छोड़ी जाए।योगा करते समय जब शरीर का कोई भी हिस्सा ऊपर की ओर उठता है तो सांस लिया जाता है। और जब शरीर का कोई हिस्सा नीचे की और आता है तो सांस छोड़ा जाता है। यह सांस लेना और सांस छोडना मन्द गति से होना चाहिए। किसी भी अवस्था मे शरीर पर झटका नहीं लगना चाहिए। इस प्रकार श्वांस लेने और छोडने पर शरीर के भीतर की छोटी से छोटी नसों पर भी दबाव पड़ता है और उनमें रक्त संचार तीव्र होता है। फल स्वरूप हुए वे स्वस्थ बनती है। योगासन से समबन्धित कुछ और भी नियम है जैसे योगा करते समय शरीर का कोई भी अंग या पहना हुआ वस्त्र पानी से भीगा नहीं होना चाहिए तथा योगा करने के कम से कम आधे घण्टे पश्चात ही स्नान करना चाहिए। साथ ही भोजन करने के कम से कम चार घण्टे पश्चात ही योगा करना चाहिए और योगा करने से आधे घण्टे पश्चात ही कुछ खाना चाहिए। भोजन सदैव शुद्ध, प्राकृतिक एवं ताजा होना चाहिए। योगासन में असीम शक्ति है।
