दालचीनी अथवा दार चीनी वास्तव मे अरबी शब्द दार- अल- चीनी से आया है जिसका अर्थ है चीन की लकड़ी । चीन मे इसका उत्पादन और व्यापार प्राचीन काल से होता आ रहा है। कुछ अभिलेखो से ज्ञात होता है कि मिस्रवासी ईसा से 2000 वर्ष पूर्व इससे परिचित थे। प्राचीन काल से ही चीन, श्री लंका, इडोनेशिया और भारत इसके उत्पादक ओर निर्यातक रहे है। श्री लंका की दालचीनी गुणो मे सर्वोत्तम होती है।

यह लारिसे परिवार का सदस्य है जिसका वानस्पतिक नाम सिनेमोमम जिलेइनिकम ब्लूम है।

विभिन्न नाम- सस्कृत- दारूशिला, दारूसिता, तमालपत्रम , बाग्ला , गुजराती, मराठी, ओड़िया- दालचीनी, मलयालम- लवंगपत्ती, अग्रेजी -सिनेमोमम।महाराष्टृ और गुजरात मे इसे तज भी कहते है।

गुण धर्म एंव उपयोग- आयुर्वेद के मतानुसार दालचीनी सुगंधित, मेघावर्धक, रक्तशोधक, कृमि, वात एंव पित्तनाशक है। यह अतिसार एंव क्षय रोग मे लाभकारी है।

भोजनोपरान्त दालचीनी के टुकड़ो को चबाने से मुह की दुर्गन्ध दूर होती है, और दात स्वस्थ्य बनते है। दात दर्द मे इसके तेल को लगाने से लाभ होता है। स्मरण शक्ति बढ़ाने के लिए एक छोटा चम्मच दालचीनी का महीन चूर्ण शहद के साथ मिलाकर रात्रि में चाटना चाहिए। सिर दर्द मे दालचीनी का तेल सिर में लगाना चाहिए। सर्दी जुकाम मे इसे सोठ के साथ काढ़ा बनाकर पीने से लाभ होता है। दाल चीनी का तेल और यूकेलिपटस समभाग मिलाकर रूई मे लगाकर सूंघने से भी जुकाम ठीक होता है। और बंद नाक खुल जाती है।

वायरल फीवर अथार्त जुकाम बुखार मे दालचीनी दो ग्राम, लौंग दो ग्राम, तुलसी की पत्ती दस ग्राम , सोठ छह ग्राम, छोटी इलाइची का बीज तीन ग्राम, सबका महीन चूर्ण बनाकर डेढ़ लीटर पानी मे रात्रि को भिगो दे। प्रातःकाल उसे लगभग 15 मिनट उबाले और चार-चार घंटे पर उसमे शहद मिलाकर रोगी को पिलावे। हर बार हल्का गुनगुना करके ही पिलाये इससे वायरल फीवर, तत्संबधी खांसी और अरूचि भी दूर होगी।

पुरानी खांसी मे दालचीनी, सौफ, और मुलैठी समभाग लेकर इसका महीन चूर्ण बनाकर बीज निकला मुनक्का मे मिलाकर छोटी छोटी गोलियां बना ले और इसे चूसे। इससे बहुत लाभ होता है।इसमे सोठ एंव सेधा नमक का पाउडर भी मिला सकते है। इससे इसके गुणो मे भी वृद्धि भी होगी और अत्याधिक स्वादिष्ट भीे हो जायेगा।

15 बूँद दालचीनी का तेल और तीन औस एरण्ड का तेल दोनो मिलाकर बवासीर, घाव और सूजन मे लगाने से लाभ होता है। सूजन मे सूजन वाले स्थान पर उक्त तेल लगाकर उसपर पान या एरण्ड के पत्ते को रख कर गरम बालू को सूती कपड़े मे बांध कर उससे सेक करना चाहिए। जब बालू कुछ ठण्डी होने लगे तब उसे पत्ते के उपर रखकर बांध देना चाहिए।

समूह द्वारा दालचीनी का प्रयोग गरममसाला, सब्जीमसाला, मीट मसाला आदि में होता है। इसके अतिरिक्त चीन की साबुत दालचीनी विक्रय की जाती है।
